Amritsar has been a hugely important city in both the old and new
states of Punjab. Known for its immense trade and textile in the olden
day, today one still sees its influence. The much loved and popular
Punjabi cuisine finds its roots in this very land; be it Sarson ka
saag (crushed mustard leaf), classi (Buttermilk), Makki ki roti (corn
bread) or Butter Chicken & Amritsari Fish (fried fish with Indian
spices). Sikh faith came into being on this very land.
